Group: Animatic

Katie's individual contribution to the animatic was editing the photos all together to the song as well as helping with the storyboarding. Mel's individual contribution was doing some of the storyboarding as well as helping to give ideas to the editing process.

By completing this activity, we have learnt that using multiple camera angles is essential in making our music video look visually pleasing. Although we didn't show camera movements within it, we will include more movement as it makes the footage more interesting to watch. We have seen that intercutting a performance part to our idea has proven very effective as it breaks up the narrative. Our mise-en-scene is important as we want all the clips to link up and provide continuity for the narrative part of our music video. Our animatic showed us that we need to carefully think about everything that is in the shot to keep them all looking the same. We also realised rule of thirds will be important when filming in Brighton as we want our footage to look professional. Cutting the different parts of the animatic to fit the song was also difficult so we learnt that we will have to carefully think about the relationship between lyrics and visuals, and music and visuals as we want our music video to fit with the genre of the song.

This process helped the development of our concept because it caused us to finalise our ideas and get them into a storyboard. It forced us to have to make decisions so therefore allowed our concept to develop further. Originally we were not sure whether to include an intercutted performance part to our music video however, due to storyboarding and creating the animatic, we decided it would make our piece more interesting and it conforms to the conventions of our music genre.

This task was more complex than the task at AS because we thought more about how many different angles of the same shot we would need in this piece which we did not do at AS. We realised it needed a lot of thought of how we wanted to look in the end. We also included found images as well as our own drawn storyboard which we did not do at AS as they represent the type of shot we want to show better than our hand drawings.
