These are 6 stills of shots that I thought were really effective in this music video:

  • From analysing this music video I have learnt that the use of close ups is very important in a music video with a fast cutting rate. It breaks up the narrative and makes it more visually interesting.
  • There are no shots of the lead singer within this music video as it is primarily narrative based. The majority of the shots show the effective location.
  • The shots have an average of 2/3 seconds per shot however there is occasionally a long shot of 6 seconds but that is the longest shot used.
  • Rule of thirds is a common visual technique used to make the shots seem more professional. It helps to frame the shot a lot better to create an effective piece.
  • Handicam and steadicam are camera techniques that are quite often used within this music video to add some subtle movement into the music video without it being too much for the look it is trying to create. We will try to replicate this style in our music video.

  1. good start Mel, don't forget to use as much technical language as possible, angles for camera, shallow focus and positioning for mes, ie on the third, centred, foreground etc

  2. Ok well done Mel, a useful video to choose as it seems to feed directly into your idea; you will need to make that clear underneath the title to ensure that your research is seen as being relevant. Some good technical observations made and selection of appropriate shots with different focus and angle considered. This is a level four so well done, there could be more technical observations and development of ideas to give a higher grade in the criteria - excellent work. 16/20
