KT: Reflection on Brighton Reccie

We went on a class trip to Brighton to partiicpate in a reccie. This was to see if the location was suitable for our main music video, but also to practise techniques.
The criterea of the shoot was to have shots including:
2x Internal Locations
2x External Locations
Tracking Shot
Medium Close up
Close up
Establishing Shot
Pan shot
360 pan
High Angle
Low Angle
Sped up shot (time lapse)

Some strengths of this reccie were that we learnt that we need multiple angles of the same shot, as music video's need a lot more footage than regular, continuity short films we had previously filmed. Another strength would be time management, as we only had 3 hours to collect and film all the footage we needed to make the mock music video. We also learnt how to be selective as we only had a small amount of time to get to locations, therefore we had to choose which locations would look best and make a judgment as a group.

Some limitations/drawbacks we found were that as we hadn't chosen the exact track by the day, we were unsure of how the video was going to look finished, and we didn't precisely film shots to suit the genre of the track. Another limitation was we were unsure of how much footage we would need as neither of us had previously filmed a music video.

The trip will inform our planning as we now know what essential equipment we need, alongside what type of cast to fulfill our aesthetic, and we can save time on our real music video as we now know which locations work and look good on camera.

Overall, I think the experience was extremely useful as we now have the key skills to produce our actual music video, we have also seen that Brighton is a potential location for our music video as we like the aesthetics and style of the seaside.
